Mock TrialThe Shorewood High School mock trial team, coached by attorney Nathan Bayer, had another successful year. The team won its regional competition in February, advanced to the state competition in Madison in March where it was one of the top two teams, and qualified to argue the championship round in front of the Wisconsin Supreme Court at the Capitol on March 12. This is the 10th straight year in which the team has won its regional competition, and Shorewood has qualified for the state championship round 4 out of the last 6 years. Over 100 teams compete in regional competitions in February, in which they have four trials in a day involving a fictitious fact pattern, arguing both sides along the way. Twelve regional winners advance to the state competition, where four more trials are held. The top two teams then advance to the championship round, presided over by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in its chambers. This is Nathan's 11th year with the team, and the team has advanced to state in 10 of those years.
